About Us

Seitz Scientific Industries Inc. (SSIInc.) began its history in January, 1985 when the company Seitz Scientific Industries (SSI) was established.

Charles Seitz Sr., a Vietnam-era pilot, became interested in alternate lighting for helicopter pilots in early 1985 while he was serving in the Alabama National Guard. Around that time, drawing on his knowledge and experience from 25-years of military flight in the U.S. Army, Charles constructed the first experimental auxiliary light.

After a few years of successful production, in September of 1988 SSI was awarded a contract with the U.S. Army for an order of the first production model of the Mike Lite, the ML-2.

In May of 1990 SSI responded to another Request for Proposal (RFP). This RFP was for two Research & Development (R&D) contracts (DAAK60-90-C-0041, DAAK60-90-C-0042) to produce a new generation of auxiliary light. Prototypes were delivered in October, 1990 for a lip-activated light and a finger-mounted light. These designs resulted in the development of SSIInc.'s most popular products, the Mike Lite ML-8 and the Fingerlight FL-5.

Due to expanding sales, SSI incorporated under the laws of the State of Alabama effective 1 January 1991. Since then, SSIInc. has continued to expand and diversify its product line, and is continually developing new ideas and products.
